Miscellany Monday

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

1. In my opinion, there aren't many things more stressful than getting an eye exam.

source

 "What is better 1 or 2, 3 or 4?"

Oh my gosh, I don't know!

I get so nervous when I go through this exam. What if I say the wrong number? I'll screw up everything. My prescription didn't change too much. My right eye is a little bit worse and my left eye is a bit more astigmatism-ey. But I did get to order new glasses! I picked them from the grandpa rack, but I think they look great!

2. Why do grocery stores insist on stocking so many types of toilet paper? I get so overwhelmed standing in front of all the billion types of toilet paper varieties. And of course I can never remember which kind I bought last time.

3. Last night was the first time I tried dying my hair myself. I donned the rubber gloves, mixed jar 1 with jar 2, and went to town. I kept reading the directions to make sure I had done everything right. It said mix stuff, put on hair, rinse out. So I jumped in the shower (and proceeded to get my entire shower curtain purple in the process). After drying my hair I realized that all the way to the right of the directions was a sentence that said "leave in for 25 minutes." Well shoot! I guess I'll be dying my hair again next week.

4. We're supposed to get 15 inches of snow this week. I was born and raised in Alaska, but no matter how much snow we get, I will just never get used to it.

Everyone keeps asking me "being from Alaska, you must be used to this, right?" No, it's still cold.

What Inspires Jami

I'm Jami from Call Me Blessed. In the interest of full disclosure, I live in sunny southern California so I don't really have a "depth of winter" but there are plenty of things that inspire me all year long.

My reading corner is #1! This is where I spend my quiet time with the Lord and do all my reading. In the winter I get the fire place going and it's my little piece of heaven on earth.

I always need inspiration in the kitchen and these bowls do the trick. They belonged to my hubby's grandmother and I can't explain it, but I just feel more domestic when I use them. I just love the color and pattern. Thanks Gram!

I love to craft, but my favorite is scrapbooking. I am in love with paper. One piece of beautiful paper sets my heart all a flutter.

God put music in my soul and I can't get enough. Whether it is my favorite music on my Ipod, my kids playing the piano or even the classical music we listen to while doing homework. Our home is almost always filled with music.

One great find can inspire my entire wardrobe. I found these perfectly pretty shoes in Santa Barbara for $20. They are the perfect shade of red and I feel cuter when I wear them. What girl doesn't love that?!

The Lord had put many gifts into my life and I try my best to nurture them all. I am so thankful for all the wonderful blogs I've found that inspire me in everything from crafting, to parenting to biblical womanhood. What an amazing way to make new friends.

Fill in the Blank Friday

source

I don't think I've been this happy to see a Friday in a long time!

I'm playing along at The Little Things We Love. Come join me!

1. If my house was on fire and I could only grab 3 things I would grab my cat, the box of important papers, and my computer. What can I say. I'm in a  boring practical mood tonight.

2. A smell I really like is Japanese Cherry Blossom from Bath and Body Works, freshly mowed grass, and my husband's deodorant.
3. Something you might not know about me is I love to sing and was the lead in my high school's musical. We did Lil' Abner and I played Daisy Mae.

4. Some of my favorite websites to putter about on are blogs mostly. I don't do much puttering elsewhere. Although I do check people.com once a day. I'm not sure why, but I do.

5. This weekend I'll be making more things for this thing, running to the post office, dropping things off at a local boutique that features my handmade items, clean the house, do laundry, go to church, and make dinner for the Ronald McDonald House with our small group.

6. Nothing makes me happier than sleeping when the sun is shining through the windows. I love sleeping, but the sun makes it all the better.

7. A bad habit I have is biting my names, although I'm doing much better!

What Inspires Annie

This is what inspires Annie from Wattlebird.

To be completely honest, trying to pin down "what inspires me" is tough. It's not that I'm uninspired. In fact, I get inspired rather easily - I'm almost always inspired by something. But every once in awhile, I do get that "blah" feeling where the creativity is just not happening. Of course, it always happens at a really inconvenient time. But I have a few things I usually do when this happens, so I thought I'd share them with you in the hopes it might help you the next time you're feeling uninspired or "blah."

If you know where this image is from, let me know.

  • take a walk
  • browse through my fabric, yarn, and other craft supplies
  • read blogs
  • search flickr or tumblr for photography or design projects
  • do some online "window" shopping on etsy, anthropologie, or modcloth
  • head to a craft store and have a look around
  • clean my workspace
  • watch a movie
  • read Real Simple, ReadyMade, or Bust Magazine
  • look through old family photos
  • start writing in stream of consciousness (rambling with no point or direction)
  • go thrifting
What do you do when you're feeling unmotivated and uninspired?

Dreaming of a Craft Room

I'm hoping that soon, very soon, I will have a craft room to call my own.
